CKC Houston - Recap

Last Friday June 28th, I headed to the Woodlands for Creating Keepsakes Convention (CKC) armed with an empty bag, a new Discover card, and visions of scrapbook treasures to be discovered and claimed as my own.

The event space was smaller than in years past and the deals (in my opinion) were scarce. The selection was meager and only a few vendors offered items that I couldn't get everywhere else -- and the one that did had a 15 minute line. If Greg hadn't been there to bolster my spirits, I would have given up my loot and left without a backwards glance -- truly there was nothing that I couldn't have lived without. I was buying because a) I was there, b) the items were there and c) although the offerings were insubstantial; I want CKC to return next year.

I remember 10 years ago (during the "scrapbook boom"), attending Creating Keepsakes Convention was the stuff of scrapbook dreams -- huge Vendor Fairs bulging with new and abundant items that made your credit cards shiver in anticipation, classes with "scrapbook experts/celebrities, make-and-takes that were FREE(!) and worth taking the time to complete -- a big deal scrapping girl's year.

For now, all the scrapbook glam and SWAG has disappeared; but a scrappy girl can dream...

  1. Yeah what a difference in 10 years. Lucky you to go to a CKC though, that is one that is not near me and can't see spending $ for an airline ticket just to go..so alas a girl can dream though.

  3. Cool that you have such an event near you, even if it hasn't been as full and exciting as in the past.

  6. I stopped going to CKC a few years ago for the very reasons you mentioned. It's disappointing. I'm glad you didn't give up on your goodies though. :)

  7. Thanks for posting this. I am going to CKC Lancaster next weekend. I was a bit bummed because I am taking 4 classes on Friday and 4 Saturday which doesn't leave much time to shop. Knowing the selection is meager will keep my mind at ease that I'm not missing out on much. My best friend and I went last year and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast for three nights instead of the hosting Hotel. We enjoyed a wonderful girlfriends weekend at a lovely place in wonderful Amish Country. So our weekend is not just about the convention. The BnB was so awesome that we booked the day we left last year for this year.

    1. Hi Kristol, how was CKC Lancaster? I hope you had a great time. I'm planning to attend CKC in San Marcos at the end of September. Hopefully, there will be some new CHA items and I may take a class or two as well.
